Something has really been bothering me lately and I have decided to post a venting blog about it so here goes: Most of you know that I have been blessed (ha) with Type 1 Diabetes, nothing new there. Okay, well what gets me all the time is people telling what and when to eat. For example, I cannot tell you how many times at a family gathering or a birthday party does someone come up to me and ask me if I should be eating that cake or ice cream or whatever else is on my plate containing sugar. It happens all the time! This question usually develops into an argument which I am passionate about. I usually feel the need to answer their question with a question, such as the title of this blog. Because of the lack of education regarding diabetes and the two different types (yes, there are two types) people assume that I cannot have sugar. If you would like a rundown on type 1 and type 2, please ask. I would be happy to enlighten you :)
NEWSFLASH: this pink (sweet, I know!) INSULIN pump that I wear enables to me eat sugar, anytime, anywhere. Also, I did NOT do this to myself. All the comments like oh she eats sugar so that's why shes on insulin are bogus. No, I did not do this to myself, and no it is not possible for me to control this disease with diet and exercise. So please, next time you see me eating something containing sugar-don't lecture me about the effects sugar has on a diabetic. I am sure I know more about it than you do anyways, unless you are in the same situation as me-then you feel my pain.
Okay, done venting for now!

Em, you are so right. It drives me crazy when people ask me the same thing. Seriously, do you think I WANT to have this disease?? NO!!!
