some people should not reproduce...

Driving on my way to class Monday (last class of the semester, woohoo!) I saw something that I thought was unbelievable and I wanted to share it with you. First I need you all to understand how busy Highway 17 is in my town. The speed limit is 55 MPH and there are three lanes going each direction. I drive this road everyday to and from work and then to class, usually without noticing anything. Tonight I saw an older man driving a scooter...not a motorcycle, a scooter. Nothing too unusual about that, but his passenger is where I had a problem.

On the back of this vehicle was a precious little blonde girl who could not have been older than 8 or 9. The kicker? She did not have a helmet on! Seriously Dad, what were you thinking? This poor little girl could not even get her arms all the way around her Dad who was sitting in front of here to hold on. I stopped next to them at a traffic light and her head was turned, pressed against his back facing my direction. Her little face looked terrified.

Sure at the light he glanced over his shoulder and mouthed something that looked like 'how are you?'...but still. Seriously, some people should not be able to reproduce. This man is one of them!

a few of my faves...

Here are just a few of my favorite pictures from the engagement shoot with Katie and Cameron over the weekend. I am working on some collages right now, and will hopefully get those posted this week, but this will work for now. We shot in downtown St. Augustine and Vilano beaches and got some really awesome pictures of them. Hope you enjoy!

Please leave some comments and let me know what you think seeing as how this was my first shoot ever. I would love to know your thoughts and comments. Thanks a bunch for the feedback!

Hi, I'm Emily...

...your photographer. Yes, you heard me correctly. I have recently taken my obsession with cameras and photography to a new level. I had one conversation about an 'idea' I had with a friend and she mentions it to someone and what do ya know...suddenly I have a set of engagement pictures to shoot this weekend and some professional head shots as well. BTW: Congratulations Katie and Cameron, I cannot wait to put our creative minds together for your engagement pictures!

So that is the update on that... I will let you know how it goes this weekend. Wanna know a little secret? I am kinda nervous, but excited too. I know these people so at least we can skip the small talk, getting to know you stuff and I have a good idea of what type of photos they would like. I know it will be a great experience even if the pictures turn out awful. I will do a sneak peak blog so you can see some of the shots after the whole thing is said and done.

Wish me luck! :)

Proof

There seems to be some questions floating around about our game of bowling I blogged about yesterday. Don't believe me that we tied the first two games? Well my friends, I have a picture of our scores printed at Bowl America for proof:

weekend recap :)

Last weekend while Stephen was here we had a little bet going on in our game of bowling. Last time he was here we bowled two games and I won one, he the other. This time we decided to put a wager on it. The winner got to pick what movie we would watch that night-his choice was Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, mine was P.S. I Love You. Would you believe that we bowled three games because we tied the first two? The lady working at Bowl America did not believe me, until I asked her to print our scores. She said she had never seen that happen before! Well I won't tell you who won the third game...but we watched Star Wars so I am sure you can guess the outcome.

Before bowling we also went putt putting. We did not keep score, but I am pretty sure if we did Stephen would have won. It was still fun though, thank goodness it was not humid and I still had straight hair at the end of the adventure :)

Here is a collage of some pictures from last weekend including pancake night at Keri's apartment, Guitar Hero (Stephen is waaaaay better than me), cupcakes, bowling, and mini golf... P.S. I love how easy it is to make a photo collage at WalMart.com. Check it out!

Oh, one funny story to share about this weekend: Stephen missed his flight yesterday afternoon (totally my fault) so he had to stay for an extra night, darn! Yeah right, I am not complaining!

HAIL CamiCakes!

Not only did Stephen have his first CamiCake experience over the weekend, but Grandma too! I stopped at the bakery Friday on the way home from the office and pickup up the delicious goods. I bought 7 cupcakes and walked out with a hot pink box that weighed way more than cupcakes should weigh. I got an extra one because I thought Gram would really enjoy it and boy did she! I think my new calling is to document all my friends and families first CamiCake experience.

Aren't these pictures great? I love their faces. After this first bite Gram sighed and said "I think I just tasted Heaven". Yep, I am pretty sure you did too Gram!

In less than four hours (insert happy dance here)I am going to the airport to pick Stephen up. YAYYYYYYYY! I cannot even begin to tell you how excited I am to see him and spend the weekend together. At this point it has been nearly three months since we were last together (picture above taken then), and a month of that time he was serving the Lord in Nigeria. Okay, no time for blogging now-I have to get get ready for an awesome weekend :)

Hope you have a great weekend too!

Art Museums

Last weekend on my to-do list was a final project for my art history class; a museum report. What is a museum report? Well, I had to go to the Cummer Art Museum and Gardens in Jacksonville (http://www.cummer.org/) and browse art and then write this paper on a piece that stood out to me. I'll admit that this was not what I wanted to do with my Saturday morning! So, I start the trek to the museum in a slightly negative mood, that turns 100% negative when I realized what an issue parking was in this area. After nearly totalling my car in a tiny downtown parking lot, I make it into the museum and I am waiting in line behind a lady purchasing her admission ticket for $10. Great, I have to spend $10 to go to a museum I don't want to go to. (My mood may have grown more negative at this point). Then it is my turn and the cashier asks if I am a student. Duh, I am here to do a paper of course I am a student. So I get in for 6 bucks, which is way better than 10. Score for me! Okay so now my mood is lifting and I start browsing the artwork.

All I a can say is 'wow'. I was in awe of some of the things I saw and in the end really enjoyed the time I spent at the Cummer. All the exhibits were so interesting and neatly displayed (everyone knows I like neat). After I found the piece I was going to use for my paper I decided to walk around the gardens out back on the River. These gardens were beautiful, so beautiful that I stopped to snap a picture. I wish I had brought my laptop with me so I could just sit in the gardens and write my paper. Oh well.

If you live in Jacksonville and have not visited the Cummer, you really should. It is an enjoyable place even if you don't look at the art and just tour the gardens it will be worth it!

...yum :)

I am so looking forward to Friday, not only because Stephen will be here but because we are going to have CamiCakes when we get home from the airport!!! (Stephen, this may be happy dance worthy-we'll see) I personally love CamiCakes and have blogged about them before (you may remember). My first CamiCake experience was at a wedding in December; instead of the traditional wedding cake the couple had a beautiful display of nearly a dozen different flavored CamiCakes. What an amazing idea! That is all it took, I was hooked! Now I have gotten several of my friends hooked as well-Libby's first Cami experience was pretty funny :)These little cupcakes are heaven on earth I am pretty sure!

Don't these all just look delicious?

We documented Libby's first experience at the movies. I think we caught a few stares of people wondering why we were taking our picture with a cupcake...oh well.
Maybe I will have some photos to post of Stephen's first Cami experience too next week! Weekend, hurry up please!!!!

this is what I did on my lunch break...

There is a new baby on the way in our family and we found out last week that it is a girl. Congratulations Heather and Billy! Now, let the shopping begin! On my lunch break the other day I did some online browsing and just fell in love with this oh so cute bathing suit from Old Navy. This may be my first purchase for the new addition to the family. Hope she likes yellow!

Isn't this bikini a requirement for every child living in Florida? What makes it even better, is that its a "itsy bitsy, teeny, weeny yellow polka dot bikini..."

Matching flip-flops make this ensemble perfect, and so cute: ) I love the little heel strap.

Okay, Okay-so I am a sucker for baby clothes...my secret is out.

Happy Easter!

Happy Easter everyone, hope you have a great day with loved ones and family!

As I lay here ready for bed with my Easter outfit picked out for church tomorrow, I cannot forget what Easter is all about. I cannot forget the suffering of Jesus Christ on the cross for my sins and your sins, so that we may have everlasting life in the Lord. Praise God for his sacrifices and thank you for shedding your blood for me! I know as a young child Easter was always about bunnies, ducks, pretty baskets and jelly beans but it is so, so much more than that. He is risen!!!

“He is not here; He has risen!” –Luke 24:6

One week!!!

I have one week before someone very important to me flies in for a visit. This week is going to be crazy to say the least-tons of school stuff, a research paper, a haircut, an Algebra exam, an eye doctor appointment, all on top of having a stocked refrigerator and a clean house. My to-do list is overflowing and post-it notes are covering my desk with little reminder. Looks like I will be busy this week! It will so be worth it though!

Happy Good Friday, hope you all have an enjoyable Easter with your families!

"I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection from the dead. Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus." Philippians 3:10-14
