I reading this morning and listening to the sound of rain, something stood out to me. Colossians 2:6-7 says this,
"So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness" . Accepting Jesus Christ as our personal savior is not the end of the road, quite the contrary; it is the beginning of a wonderful walk and relationship with the Lord. Things may (likely) change in our lives, and sacrifices will (likely) be made, shells broken and taken away-all things for the good that will allow us as individuals to become closer and more dependant on the only one we need. We must be "
rooted and built up in him". How do you become rooted? A root springs from a seed. We are all seeds, that need to continue to grow.
Did you know that over 80% of Americans claim to be Christians? What percentage of the 80% are rooted and growing with the Lord? Scary thought, huh? This is something that I think and pray faithfully about often at large conferences and rallies. It is amazing a worthy of praise when thousands of people accept Christ at these events, but where is the follow up? Do these children of Christ know how to become rooted with the Lord, or do they accept Christ and not think twice about it? I pray that there is followup through local churches, youth groups, or small group Bible studies so that they can learn what faith is, and how to be seeds and grow in their walk with the Lord!
"When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ" Colossians 2:13
