We have really been enjoying learning things and exploring our new town. North Manchester is such a beautiful area, with historic homes and parks galore. Last night after dinner (we finally finished the leftover enchiladas from last Friday!) we set out on a nice walk. It was a beautiful evening (though a bit warm) and very enjoyable!
We started out at our new home...
And then we walked past Thomas Riley Marshall's house. He served as Vice President of the United States under the 28th president, Woodrow Wilson. Lucky for us, he was born in North Manchester and there is a memorial in his honor...very cool!
Then we strolled pass the war memorial and the Holderman Cemetery. The cemetery is actually very neat. There are many gravestones that are so old it is unbelievable. We debated over the date on one last night and believe it was 1287, but we could be wrong! Just the history and story behind the area is very interesting!
And finally we found our way to the park that is not far from our house. We had been here before (sledding last winter) but it looks totally different in the summer!
Not pictured, but worth being mentioned are all the beautiful historic homes in our neighborhood. Our home was built in 1883 and there are several that are much older! We passed one that was built in 1851 last night and it is still beautiful and well maintained! I really think we are going to love living in this town, the history, the seasons, the beautiful homes...it is perfect for us!
After our walk around town I made it a point to take some pictures to share with you of our house, so here goes:
The current status of our front porch...I dream of some cute wicker furniture, but that won't be the first thing we purchase. I think being able to cut the grass might be more important, so a lawn mower it will be!
I can have a welcome mat, woohoo!
Our front storm door, looking out from the dining room.
Living room: side entry from front porch that we don't plan on using, painting by me and some family pictures :)
Looking into the living room from the entryway/dining room.
LOVE our fireplace!
Opening all the shutters lets in so much light! I love them!
Closing them at night provides privacy, which is also so nice!
How could you not love these doorknobs? Can you say antique!?
The curtains came with the house and I like what they add!
And lastly, the view of the fireplace and TV from near the couch. Note the new home cards that sweet people sent us, such a sweet thought! :)
Hope you enjoyed the walk around the neighborhood and the mini tour of the new home. I might try and take some more pictures to share later this week...really though, to get the whole picture you just need to visit. Photo's really do not do it justice in my opinion...so family in Florida, hop on a plane and come on up!
