Man VS. Food

If you have cable you have probably seen the show I am talking about; Man Vs. Food. It is a great show on the travel channel that The Mr. and I used to love watching together while dating. Me in Florida, him in Indiana...when you are in a long distance relationship you have to get creative and find ways to do things together regularly. Phone television and movie dates were pretty frequent for us. I never though that The Mr. would do something like Adam Richman though. The Mr. proved me wrong and surprised me last weekend while in Pierceton, IN!

Yesterday I posted a long and detailed breakdown of our weekend, but I left out on pretty big part. The Mr. might even say this was the highlight of his weekend...you never know :) So here we are, in Pierceton getting some lunch. I tell The Mr. that I saw a sign on the front of the building advertising a 5lb burger. Neither of us saw it on the menu, but went our waitress came to take our order he asked about it. The conversation went something like this:

MR: Do you guys have a 5lb burger? I think we saw a sign.

WAITRESS: Yes! We have a 5lb burger. Do you want to do the challenge?

MR: There is a challenge?

WAITRESS: If you eat the entire burger in an hour it is free, but only one person has been able to do it.

MR: Sure, I will try!

ME: You know I am going to blog about this, and take TONS of pictures!

MR: Yes, I realize that.

WAITRESS: It takes about 30 minutes to cook because it takes up the entire grill.

MR: Okay, I can wait.

So my food comes out. First my side salad then my BLT. I eat and wait for his burger. I could see the excitement and anticipation on his face while they were cooking it. We could hear the guys in the back shouting things like "get me a whole tomato for this thing!" and things like that...it was too funny! I think the entire restaurant was excited that he decided to do this :)

I saw his burger before he did because he had his back to the kitchen...my first thought was something along the lines of  "oh my goodness!" The thing was HUGE! Once the plate was set in front of him the waitress took his picture and explained that it would either be posted on their Wall of Fame, or Wall of Shame and set the timer. He started eating and I started snapping pictures. I think the story is best told through the pictures:

Looking happy and anxious to take the first bite!

This thing was so BIG. Bigger than I think either of us imagined!

Digging in...yum! Our waitress told him he had to eat the bread but he was saving it for last as part of his strategy. :)

Yum Yum Yum

Bacon, tomatoes, onions, pickles, cheese, special sauce and lots of lettuce.

He is still going...

Yum!

The top of the bun was a big as my head! Wow!

Just for a size comparison...

Is it just me or is he looking a little full?

Half way! Woohoo!

It was as big as Stephen's head too!

So so so much bread and that's coming from a girl who loves carbs!

You know the bread that you make spinach dip in? The round sourdough loafs? This was one...so heavy and dense!

He is happy with what he accomplished in 28 minutes :)

Stick a fork in him, he is done!

What he did not eat had to be put in not one, but two to-go boxes!

In the end, The Mr. stopped eating after about 30 minutes. He did eat half of the towering burger and some of the top bun. Thankfully he stopped before he was miserable, because we still had some shopping to do :) I asked him if he was able to enjoy the burger and all and he said yes and that it was surprisingly really good. We both are interested to see how they cook a burger patty that big! Because he did not finish the burger in an hour, we had to pay our bill and his face is now on the wall of shame. He can try again though...maybe next time we go antiquing!

Have a great Tuesday friends & family. Up tomorrow my Easter cupcakes that turned out not so Eastery.

I don't think I've seen a hamburger that big in my life! Sure makes for some good leftovers though. ;)
