I know I said this post would publish tomorrow but I got it completed early and decided to post it today because I am still oh.so.excited about all the fun we had! Enjoy the post and pictures. Now, I promise the details about the burger will post tomorrow. I am not gonna whip that one out today :)
{Warning: very long and picture heavy post!}
Remember how I posted about the great weekend we had in February? We went sledding at Grace College and had a great day? Yeah well, you might not know this but I generously deemed that day as the best day ever. Well friends, that is no longer true. We had a wonderful day on Saturday and in the end, it won the title for best day ever! Actually, the entire weekend was superb; starting on Friday!

Friday we were going to have black and blue burgers at home but Martin's (grocery store, right by our apartment) was having an all you can eat fried fish dinner (yuck) that Stephen really wanted to go to. I happily said yes knowing that I could get their fresh salad bar and be happy. It worked out perfectly because I really do not like fish and do not ever see me cooking it, so I am glad Stephen got to have some omega 3's.
After dinner we headed to Kohl's for some shopping and got really great deals. I love spring sales :) After getting home we finished watching Harry Potter that we had started on Thursday night and went to bed. Aghhh sleep!
Saturday morning we slept in and it was glorious! After breakfast and getting a little bit of cleaning on my part we got ready for our day and decided to hit some antique stores. There is a town near ours that is known as the "antique town". Well, we drive though it all the time but have never stopped to shop. First we went to a store that covers 7 acres. Wow, that is a lot of antiques. We found some interesting and beautiful things. I scored some antique blue glass salt and pepper shakers and a few things for my Mom. I can't tell you what those are since we reads this blog :)
Starting our Saturday adventure!
Cake stand find #1, I have a fascination with these!
Loved this hat!
Beautiful hurricane lamps, some were $130!
After this antique store we headed to the downtown area of Pierceton and stopped for lunch. Partially because we were hungry, but mostly because my blood sugar was low and I needed a coke! Thank goodness we stopped at Cafe Dela though because I saw a sign for a 5lb burger. 5lbs!?!?! Well, that is another post all together but I will give you a couple teaser photo's just so you can prepare yourself!
My delicious BLT that was nothing compared to Stephen's burger...
5lbs baby...more to come on this tomorrow!
After filling our bellies and Stephen's hollow legs we were off for more shopping. I forgot how much I like antique shops. There is just so many neat things that you can find...granted, there are some creepy and weird things too. Like this one place that had head (stuffed) animals everywhere...it really gave me the heebie geebies!
How about this furniture that is entirely made out of seashells? Weird? Um, Yes!
While strolling between antique shops downtown, we stopped to take a few pictures...of course!
Warm enough to wear sandals...Praise the Lord!
Forgot the camera was zoomed in when taking this picture, but we still like it :)
So, I texted my mom and picture of this saddle while in a store (the same one with lots of seashells) and she had to have it. I actually ended up paying 10 dollars less than what she offered to pay, woo! We were a sight to be seen walking around downtown carrying a horse saddle I am sure :) We are still unsure of how to get this to her in Florida...it is looking like she just needs to come up to IN and get it!
It just so happens that at this particular store with all the seashells and the stuffed animals that I found a steal of a deal. We were looking at a mahogany China Cabinet circa 1930-1940's. The price on the piece was $175 which I thought was a steal anyways. Then the guy said that he would sell it for $75. WOW!?! After some thinking and talking between me and The Mr. we called his parents to see if they could help...since this thing would not fit in my Honda Civic! They came and we purchased :)
That goodness The Mr.'s parents were available to come help us get this beautiful cabinet home. Well, home to their house because we really have no area to work on it in our apartment. I can just picture the cabinet once it is refinished and has love poured into it...it is going to be beautiful!
This was basically the finale of our antique shopping day. We went to one other store with my mother and father in law before grabbing dinner and going home. I just kept saying "I can't believe we got that cabinet for $75!" I think I may still be in shock over the entire thing! We plan to start stripping and sanding it this weekend. I already cannot wait to have it finished!
Sunday the weather in Indiana was BEAUTIFUL. Beautiful as in, warm and sunny. I actually wore a dress to church without tights and a jacket! It was so nice :) After church we decided to have an impromptu picnic lunch courtesy of Taco Bell. The sun was so warm...I may or may not have pretended that where the grass stopped and the corn field started was a beach. Ha! After lunch I laid in the sun for a little while and actually got a sunburn. I think I had forgotten what the warmth of the sun felt like.
We also cut Stephen's hair outside since it was so nice. We usually cut his hair inside at our apartment but it does make a mess. It was nice to get it done outside where there was little to no cleanup involved! We...or I ended up cutting it much shorter than previously done but we both like it a lot!
And last but not least...we have plants! The cilantro plants that we planted 2 weeks ago have began to grow!
And that friends (and family) is our weekend in a nutshell. A very long and detailed nutshell :) I will post more about the monstrous burger later in the week!

totally jealous of the china cabinet! oh and hold onto that saddle! hold if for ransom!! that's what i do with my parents. i have some of my dad's old speakers and i threatened them with a saw and sent my dad a picture and told him if he didn't come and get them from me the speakers were gonna get it! just a little extra encouragement for parents to visit!
Glad y'all had a wonderful weekend! I love antique stores and I've been on the hunt for a china cabinet, too :) Love that one! I have those exact same sandals you were wearing! Great pictures! xoxo
That cabinet is beautiful! I would not refinish it. I would get some Old English and just oil it up and call it a day. Some things look better left as is and I think this cabinet won't be much better after all the work refinishing it would be. Just take the extra pieces of wood off of the glass on the front. Replace that if you want but otherwise, it is so nice and cleaning the glass will be much easier with those pieces just gone. So fortunate!!!!
Thanks for your comments Danielle. I love, love, love the cabinet! We want to refinish it because the stain on the wood does not match anything in our home. Plus, up close there are areas that need some love and attention. We are going to keep the wood on the two side doors and remove it completely off the middle window. The glass is in perfect condition, thankfully. We also think we are going to keep the mirrors on the top because that is a characteristic of the time period the cabinet is from.
Plus, I am always looking for a project and this will be a fun one that me and the hubs can do together. We are excited! :)
Have a great Monday-it's almost over. YAY!
Sounds like you had a fantastic weekend!I cant believe you got that
